Specializing in criminal defense and civil litigation, J. Bo Turney received his Juris Doctor from the Washburn University School of Law in 2014.
Since then, Bo has held positions in legal education and bar readiness training for students in law school. He previously worked as the Assistant Director of Academic Support at Washburn University School of Law.
Bo serves on the Board of Directors for KC Legal, an LGBTQ bar association, and is a member of the Sam A. Crow American Inn of Court.
Although his first passion is standing up for the rights of local people and their families, Bo has a varied background that ranges from customer service and information technology to automotive mechanics and sales.
He has a Bachelor of Arts from the Metropolitan State University of Denver and maintains a keen interest in the performing arts. You may even find him performing in a play at the Topeka Performing Arts Center if you are there at the right time!
He also actively supports the Topeka Civic Theater. During the 2019 Topeka Bar Association’s Bar Show, he performed in front of lawyers from around the state.
Bo is also an executive board member of Topeka Pride and loves to educate the local community about LGBTQ-related issues.
As an attorney, this wide range of experience and interests helps him relate to and empathize with his clients, providing support and legal guidance in their time of need.
Bo was recently selected to serve as the Chair of the 2020 Programming Committee for Leadership Greater Topeka.
The Programming Committee plans events and helps to shape the curriculum for the next round of leaders to benefit from Leadership Topeka, which is a part of the Greater Topeka Partnership.
The Jayhawk Area Council selected Bo for part of Topeka’s “Top 20 Under 40” Award in 2019.
This award honors members of the Topeka and Shawnee County for their commitment and contributions both personally and professionally.
